Contemporary lines and very functional spaces in the reform of this apartment in Barcelona
The Coblonal studio has been in charge of the reform of this apartment located in the select La Bonanova neighborhood of Barcelona. Its profound transformation (redistribution included) has resulted in a family home, friendly, fresh and bright.
The studied interior design carried out by the interior design studio has achieved the desired balance for the family lifestyle of its owners, a young couple with two children. The house now has a very contemporary outline and at the same time is very cozy and functional .
The house Before
Before the reform, the house was very old and had a very compartmentalized layout, with many rooms that were not adapted to the needs of the family. In the Coblonal study they redistributed the spaces, with the aim of making the most of both the surface and the light inputs of the house.
The quietest part of the house was the one that faced the rear facade, so in this area the rooms or night area were installed. On the main facade, the natural light that enters through the balcony and the windows of the facade is more abundant and was used to locate the day and social area of the house.
The day zone opens up although it is well zoned
The living room, kitchen and dining room share the same space and are articulated around a central pillar and a mid-height piece of furniture , distributing an open space but well parceled out in terms of its functions. In this way, the different spaces are partially included in each other, encompassing a single large space. This open layout broadens the visual perception of the space and allows natural light to reach any point in the kitchen, dining room or living room.
For the kitchen, an elegant gray has been chosen for the cabinets , which matches the large chaise lounge sofa in the living room.
The central white cabinet, made entirely to measure, fulfills a double function: on the one hand, it helps to separate rooms without obstructing the space or preventing the entry of light; on the other, it offers extra storage and complements the TV base unit, island and kitchen furniture.
Original architectural elements
In the dining area, half a wall has been left with the bricks seen and illuminated from a small brick ledge, topped with a wooden envelope. The Catalan vaulted ceiling that had been hidden behind a false ceiling for decades has also been rescued .
And it is that "elements that had been considered unrefined in previous decades, today are perceived as an added value for the charm, uniqueness and sign of a common type of construction of a time and now also of the city" they explain from Coblonal. The touch of warmth and sophistication is placed in the living area by a gas fireplace, embedded in the wall , which offers the warmth and hypnotic charm of the flame to the inhabitants of the house.
A wide corridor connects the day area with the night area
On the way to the rooms, on the right hand side a discreet and at the same time huge piece of furniture has been designed, with the central area open and shelves at the top and bottom, hidden behind white doors. This provides generous storage that takes advantage of a passage area and frees up space from other rooms.
Custom furniture in aged wood for the night area
The night area is warm and welcoming thanks to the use of aged wood furniture, designed and produced by the Coblonal studio , and of different elements and textures in neutral tones. The apartment has two complete bathrooms, three bedrooms and another room that connects the two children's rooms and the corresponding bathroom, expanding the shared play area.
In the youth room, a long side-by-side desk stands out facing the window to make the most of the natural light. The bed frame, in aged noble wood like the desk and the wardrobe, incorporates another extra bed.
The chest of drawers follows the same organic style, made of iron and wood veneer, also designed by Coblonal . A spacious wardrobe in white lacquered wood with concealed handles - the same finish as the hall closet - offers ample storage and, behind the central doors, space for a television. The work head incorporates two niches with wall lights that act as a bedside table.
Toilets
Both bathrooms incorporate duplicate sinks on furniture designed and produced by Coblonal . The large mirror in the main bathroom is suspended above an illuminated wooden drawer, which simultaneously acts as a shelf.
In the wet area of the suite bathroom, the freestanding bathtub is striking, which shares space with the shower heads for daily use, and which is presented as a deliberately included piece, an element to enjoy relaxation at its best conditions in the home itself.
Altogether it is a house that combines equal doses of functionality and charm, where the light flows from end to end. Where all the elements are arranged and transmit an organic, fresh and luminous aspect, as well as contemporary, modern and unique.
