How to quickly insulate a balcony: step by step instructions
Even the most unsightly balcony can become a full-fledged part of your home - cozy and irreplaceable, you just need to properly glaze and insulate it. We will tell you how to do it.
With the onset of cold weather, it's time to think about how to keep and preserve precious heat in the apartment. In order not to spend money on the purchase of ineffective room heaters, we recommend solving this problem once and for all by properly glazing and insulating your balcony.
1-Selecting windows
Balcony glazing begins with the purchase of durable and sealed structures - the window frame must be strong. Most often, balconies are glazed with wood, aluminum or PVC frames. Wooden frames are cheaper, but have problems with tightness and thermal insulation. If it is really very cold in your house in winter, then a wooden frame for glazing a balcony will not work.

To keep warm, you can purchase an aluminum frame with thermal separation of the inner and outer layers and non-metallic inner formwork, but such a frame will be expensive. The most economical option is PVC frames. This material is resistant to dampness and sudden changes in temperature. The main advantage of the PVC frame is its low thermal conductivity, thanks to which the balcony will be really warm and cozy even in the coldest winter.
2-Eliminate gaps
After glazing the balcony, you need to carefully seal all kinds of cracks and gaps on the windows with mastic and sealant. Even the smallest crack can cause drafts and temperature drops on your balcony.

3-We lay the insulation
Most often, polystyrene or polyurethane foam is used to insulate a balcony, since these materials are lightweight, durable and easily cut with a knife. Insulation can be attached using dowels or glue - in both cases, the seams are filled with polyurethane foam. Please note that glue and foam must not contain toluene, which is hazardous to health.

4-We insulate the floor
Do not forget to purchase additional heat sources on the balcony - such as underfloor heating, a convector or an electric fireplace. Then it will be really warm on your balcony every day of the year.

5-Decoration and decor
Turn on your imagination and even experiment a little. The walls of the balcony can be finished with plasterboard (which, if desired, can be painted in any color you like) or, for example, wood panels. Decorate your balcony with natural materials - brick, stone, clay and even fabrics. But you can visually increase its space with the help of smooth shiny surfaces - furniture and decor made of metal, glass and polished wood.
