The Erechtheion is an ancient Greek temple on the northern side of the Acropolis of Athens in Greece, dedicated to the struggle of Athena and Poseidon for the right of power in the capital.

The temple was built between 421 and 406 BC. Its architect may have been Mnesicles, and it derived its name from a shrine dedicated to the legendary Greek hero Erichthonius. It has an asymmetric plan, which is unique for the local architecture, and is considered to be one of the most beautiful and mystical temples in Attica.
