Margravial Opera House , Great Archicteure

The Margravial Opera House, one of the masterpieces of Baroque theater architecture, built between 1745 and 1750.

Commissioned by Margravine Wilhelmine, wife of Frederick, Margrave of Brandenburg Bayreuth, it was designed by the famous theater architect Giuseppe Galli Bibiena.

As a court opera house in a public setting, it foreshadowed the great public theaters of the nineteenth century.

The stepped wooden structure of the highly ornate theater with a fairy-tale canvas represents an ephemeral ceremonial architectural tradition that was used in processions and ceremonies to represent the princely self.
